Red Sweater Crochet Pattern - Easy Print Page


This pattern is the crochet version of the Red Sweater. You knit the whole sweater in 1 piece. It requires approximately 1oz of yarn, plus one strand (about 3 feet) to shape the shoulder.

Supplies
Yarn:
Red Heart Yarn in any shade of red
100% Acrylic Medium Worsted weight (super saver)
Approx. 1oz per sweater
**Please only use yarn with "red" in the name, like "cherry red", "flame red", etc.


Hook:
G aka #6 or size needed to obtain correct sweater size

Notions:
Scissors
Yarn Darning needle

Gauge:
No gauge. Sweater should be approximately 3.5" long, 3" wide at chest, with 3" long sleeves.

Techniques:
This pattern is written for single crochet (sc) stitch.

Pattern

Body
Chain 13
Row 1: sc in second chain from hook. SC in each chain. (12sc) chain 1, turn.
Row 2 - 7: sc in each stitch, chain 1, turn. (12sc)
Shape Sleeves
Row 8: sc in each stitch, chain 11, turn.
Row 9: sc in second chain from hook, sc in each chain/stitch (22sc), chain 11, turn.
Row 10: sc in second chain from hook, sc in each chain/stitch, chain 1, turn. (32sc)
Row 11: sc in each stitch, chain 1, turn. (32sc)
Shape Shoulder
Row 12: sc in first 14 sts, chain 1, turn. (14sc)
Row 13: sc in 14 sts. Fasten off.
Shape other shoulder
Row 12: with new yarn, start at opposite sleeve. In first st, slip one (to attach new yarn), chain one (counts as first sc), sc in next st, sc in next 12sts, chain 1, turn. (14sc)
Row 13: sc in 14 sts, chain 1, turn. (14sc)
Close Neck
Row 14: sc in 14 sts, chain 4, sc in next 14 sts, chain 1, turn. <32sc including ch4)
Row 15: sc in 14 sts, 4 sc in chain 4 space, sc in next 14sts, chain 1, turn. (32sc)
Row 16: sc in each stitch, chain 1, turn. (32sc)
End Sleeves
Row 17: sc in next 22 sts, chain 1, turn. (22sc)
Row 18: sc in next 12 sts, chain 1, turn. (12sc)
Row 19 - 25: sc in each stitch, chain 1, turn. Fasten off at end of row 25.
Finishing
1) Darn in yarn ends at sleeve openings
2) Sew side seams from bottom opening to sleeve opening, don't cut the yarn
3) Secure the yarn at the top of sleeve opening, do not cut. There should be at least a 6" tail (we'll hang the sweater from this yarn).
